Forklift Training

Did you know that you are required to comply with specified safety standards? Failure to meet legal standards can result in fines of up to $500,000, in addition to workplace accidents and injuries. The best way to ensure your company does not face any of these unpleasant consequences is through proper prevention - approved safety training for your equipment operators.

Get Your Forklift Operators in Top Form

Johnston offers different packages for narrow aisle, counterbalance, and hand pallet trucks ranging from simple training aids to in-depth instruction - to best meet your needs.

Not only do lost man-days and equipment downtime cost you thousands of dollars, but studies show that an effective training program can improve operator safety performance by up to 70%:

  • Reduce Damage to Inventory
Sharper skills mean less inventory mishandling, and fewer write-offs
  • Reduce Damage to Rack
You'd be surprised at how much you can save
  • Reduce Maintenance Costs
Properly used equipment requires less maintenance
  • Increase Uptime
Less maintenance results in more hours a machine can be productive
  • Reduce WSIB Premiums
Improved safety track record usually means lower annual premiums
  • Increased Productivity
Reduced accidents boost work hours; safety and production go hand in hand

Here are five safety pointers from the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario:

  1. Don't just train equipment operators. Be sure to include supervisors and any other employees who might walk or work near the equipment.
  2. Don't stop at training courses. Test each employee after the course and re-train any workers who didn't understand the material. Keep a file on each employee to record all the training received, as well as test results.
  3. Keep in mind that "worker" includes everyone at the company - right up to the president and CEO. That means management has to be aware of safety hazards in all areas of the building, from the warehouse to the boardroom.
  4. Provide a forum for employees to express concerns about hazards and dangers to senior management.
  5. Make sure supervisors enforce safety rules. In a court case, you'd also have to prove they were competent, meaning knowledgeable about safety laws and hazards, with experience in training employees.
